I’ll Fly is a song written with a simple purpose in mind - to encourage the family of a young girl who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a debilitating neurological disorder found mostly in girls. This tragic disease is one which literally traps girls inside their own bodies.
As girls reach only a few months of age, this disease starts to become evident as they are unable to control their movements or learn basic motor skills. These girls are as intelligent and beautiful as the rest… they are simply trapped.
This song is written from the perspective of Anna, the beautiful girl with Rett. My desire was:
1) To help people recognize what might truly be going on in Anna’s mind; giving her words she might wish to say, and
2) to make a statement of belief that someday a cure will be found.
Anna will fly in this life or the next.
Although this song was written with a specific purpose in mind, I believe the context is one which all people can identify with. Everyone has something that is keeping them from going the distance, saying the right thing even if it hurts, making the hard decision, etc. The reality is that too many people are being weighted down from life's circumstances- my prayer is that someday you will find the courage to fly.
